KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to halt its ‘Tarai-Madhes Awareness Campaign,’ citing an increase in royalist activities, which the party attributes to the actions of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The campaign, which had started on February 25, 2025, will be temporarily suspended. The Maoist Center argues that corruption and other misdeeds by the current government have unintentionally provided a platform for royalists to gain momentum.

“Oli’s actions have been highly inappropriate, and corruption within the government has allowed royalist elements to re-emerge,” said Govinda Acharya, Chief Personal Secretary to Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’

Acharya also mentioned that the party’s leadership will meet on Sunday, March 9, to discuss the issue, leading to the suspension of campaign events for the next two days.

He stressed that any alternative to the republican system would only lead to regression, indicating the need for resistance against royalist forces. “Monarchy cannot replace our republic. Regression is not an option. If necessary, we must resist the royalists,” he added.
