KATHMANDU: Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) are preparing to merge before November 16 to contest the upcoming elections as a single party.

Talks between the two parties are in the final stages, with no major obstacles reported.

Both parties have agreed to base their ideology on Marxism–Leninism, moving away from Maoist principles and the multi-party people’s democracy previously promoted by the Unified Socialist.

They also plan to adopt “Nepali-style socialism” tailored to the country’s unique social and economic conditions.

The parties are finalizing a streamlined leadership structure with fewer top positions, while discussions continue over roles such as chairperson, co-chair, and secretariat composition.

Party name options under consideration include CPN (Socialist) or Communist Party of Nepal, with the traditional communist flag to be retained.

Senior leaders with minor objections are expected to be persuaded, and the merger is likely to be officially announced soon, positioning the unified party strongly for the upcoming elections.
