KATHMANDU – Nepal’s Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as Prachanda, made a brief visit to Kathmandu on Wednesday during his party’s ongoing Terai-Madhesh Awakening Campaign.
Prachanda, who had been campaigning in Biratnagar, Koshi Province, arrived in the capital in the afternoon and is scheduled to return to Biratnagar by 5 p.m. before proceeding to Sunsari.
During his short stay in Kathmandu, Prachanda attended an event marking Dil Bahadur Ramtel Memorial Day at the party’s central office in Parisdanda. “Since today is Maha Shivaratri, there were no scheduled campaign programs,” Prachanda’s chief personal secretary, Govinda Acharya, said in a statement. “It is also Martyrs’ Week, and the chairman inaugurated the event at the party office.”
Later, Prachanda is expected to hold discussions with party leaders, including Khagaraj Bhatta, on the ongoing dispute over the leadership of the parliamentary party in Sudurpaschim Province, as well as internal talks concerning the party’s Valley Contact Province.
