KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said his party, though in the opposition, is compelled to act like the ruling side due to constitutional and legal obligations.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Chitwan on Tuesday morning, he admitted the Maoists have limited strength in Parliament, which forces them to take on responsibilities akin to the ruling coalition to safeguard the constitution and legal system.
The statement comes amid criticism over a recent two-point deal between three major parties that ended the party’s two-week obstruction of Parliament over the visit visa scandal involving the Home Minister.
Prachanda defended the agreement, saying it was necessary to resume budget discussions and showed his party’s responsible stance.
