KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that there are many leaders within his party more capable than President Sher Bahadur Deuba to lead the government.

Speaking at a program in Lalitpur on Saturday, Thapa remarked, “Twelve to fifteen months from now, our party president is expected to become Prime Minister. But I believe dozens of others in Congress can govern better than him.”

He stressed the need for youth to question current leadership just as they questioned monarchy in the past.

“Back then, people praised the king’s commands. Today, we have at least the courage to say — either change your ways, or we will change you,” he said.

Thapa called on the new generation to understand and take pride in the republic born from the people’s movement.

“We built a political highway — we’ve stumbled along the way, but we’ve kept the nation on course,” he said.

He acknowledged past failures but emphasized that Nepal has managed to survive where other nations faltered.

“What we have is worth celebrating,” he added.
