KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker NP Saud has called on the government to recognize its diplomatic responsibilities and fulfill its national and international obligations, considering the recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Speaking during the Zero Hour of the House of Representatives session on Wednesday, Saud emphasized that the government must act diplomatically and responsibly during times when war-like situations are emerging in neighboring countries.

“I would like to suggest that the Government of Nepal recognize its diplomatic responsibilities and fulfill its national and international duties during times when even our own citizens are becoming victims of terror based on their beliefs, and fires of war are igniting in neighboring regions,” Saud stated.

Saud, who is also a former Foreign Minister, expressed grief over the brutal killing of 26 innocent people, including Nepali youth Sudip Neupane, in Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir, India.

“Even Nepalis have not been spared from the attacks carried out by global terrorists,” he remarked, adding, “The Pahalgam terrorist incident has created a serious situation of tension between our neighboring friendly nations, India and Pakistan.”

He further expressed dissatisfaction over the visit of a high-level Pakistani military delegation to Nepal, disregarding the horrific terrorist incident and the emerging circumstances in the neighborhood.

“Although the visit was pre-scheduled, it was necessary to be sensitive to the current situation, demonstrate diplomatic skill, and temporarily postpone the visit while waiting for an appropriate time,” Saud said.
