NA members draw government’s attention to current issues

KATHMANDU: Members of the National Assembly raised several pressing concerns during today’s meeting, urging the government to take immediate action on various contemporary issues.

During zero hour, lawmaker Krishna Bahadur Rokaya demanded that those responsible for trafficking Nepali youths to Uttarakhand, India, under the lure of attractive jobs and holding them hostage be identified and brought to justice.

Ghanashyam Rijal pointed out that 201 local units are still without Chief Administrative Officers and called on the government to appoint them promptly to ensure effective governance.

Lawmaker Rukmini Koirala emphasized the critical role of Female Community Health Volunteers in maternal and child health and urged the government to ensure their proper management and recognition.

Raising security concerns, Renu Chand demanded an investigation into the fire at the CPN (Maoist Centre) office in Baitadi, which destroyed important documents. She called on authorities to find out who was responsible and why the fire was started.

Bishnu Kumari Sapkota highlighted the recent discovery of a natural gas reserve in Dailekh and urged the government to utilize it to promote employment opportunities.

Similarly, Bishnu Devi Pudasaini called for the full implementation of pollution control standards to improve environmental conditions, while Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma warned about the increasing spread of COVID-19 and dengue in 73 districts, stressing the need for timely interventions.

Krishna Prasad Adhikari demanded a swift resolution to problems along the Daunne Road section in Nawalpur and highlighted the lack of reconstruction following last year’s monsoon damage, urging the government to prepare for potential disasters this year.

Lastly, Sabitri Malla emphasized the importance of properly utilizing the 1.12 billion cubic meters of gas discovered in Dailekh, expressing hope that it could significantly contribute to Nepal’s economic prosperity.
