KATHMANDU: In Friday’s meeting of the National Assembly, lawmakers called on the government to ensure the timely completion of national pride projects, especially those critical for irrigation.
They expressed concern that delays in major infrastructure projects have left people in drought-affected regions struggling.
During the special session, lawmaker Yubaraj Sharma stressed the need to expedite the implementation of national pride projects within their scheduled timelines.
He also emphasized halting the export of stones and gravel from the Chure region, highlighting the growing drought crisis in the Madhesh area.
Sharma further urged the government to ensure the rule of law and effectively implement the proposed expenditure reduction plans across government institutions.
Lawmaker Maya Prasad Sharma drew attention to the recent flash flood in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village of Uttarakhand, India, where 22 Nepali citizens have gone missing.
He urged the government to take immediate action for their search and rescue, noting that the missing individuals are from Jajarkot, Bardiya, and Dhading districts.
Sharma also objected to the Election Commission’s proposed “Political Party Self-Evaluation Procedure, 2025,” arguing that political parties should be evaluated by the people through elections, not self-assessments.
She also called for swift progress on the Civil Service Bill.
Likewise, lawmaker Mohammad Khalid also urged the government to take necessary steps to locate the missing Nepali citizens in the Uttarakhand floods.
