LALITPUR: The Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, which began today, is scheduled to resume at 1 PM on Friday. Today’s session, chaired by the party’s Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, was adjourned to allow for continuation tomorrow, as the committee members could not complete sharing their views, stated spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.
“Discussions are currently in progress regarding how to address the political challenges and the issues confronting the party due to the current situation, as well as strategies to advance the party in this difficult context,” he noted.
“The process of officials addressing the committee will continue tomorrow, and there has been a suggestion for regular conventions to be held in a timely manner, along with discussions on whether the entire legal process can be concluded by mid-December,” he added.
Spokesperson Dr. Mahat reaffirmed the party’s stance that those accountable for the destruction of private property, as well as leaders, businessmen, and national assets during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, should face legal consequences.
He expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs, emphasizing that the lack of action against lawlessness has increased the risk of capital flight and that the ministry is promoting disorder.
“Houses of leaders have been set on fire, Kisunji’s ashram (residence of former NC President Krishna Prasad Bhattarai) has been ruined, and there is a conspiracy to undermine democratic values, which has raised our serious concern. Those who fired weapons during the movement must be identified and held responsible,” he added.
Dr Mahat also indicated that the NC was always ready for elections, and for elections to be credible, the government must take the issue seriously; otherwise, reinstating the parliament could be a feasible option.
