KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have called for all possible constitutional measures to stabilize the country, following the violent Gen Z protests in Kathmandu that toppled the Oli government and triggered a political vacuum.
In a joint appeal, the leaders acknowledged past failures of governments, including their own party, to meet public expectations and address corruption.
They committed to rebuilding the NC from the ground up as a responsible, accountable party reflecting the aspirations of citizens and the younger generation.
Thapa and Sharma expressed condolences to youths who lost their lives during the protests and urged a speedy recovery for the injured.
They condemned attacks on public institutions and property, insisting that much of the destruction was caused by infiltrators rather than the protesting youth.
Welcoming the President’s initiative for dialogue, the NC leaders emphasized that any new political arrangements must follow constitutional and legal procedures.
They also called for a thorough investigation into excessive use of force during the protests and for accountability of those responsible.
“In this turbulent period, impulses and anger are temporary, but the Nepali Congress will emerge stronger and more accountable, safeguarding the Constitution and advancing democratic progress,” the appeal stated.
