KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba visited Baluwatar to meet UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli while the cabinet meeting was ongoing.

The two leaders gathered for discussions after criticism from the opposition that the Congress-UML government lacked legitimacy.

A member of PM Oli’s secretariat told reporters, “After the cabinet meeting, there will be discussions between Deuba and PM Oli. Likely topics include reopening social media and other issues. The matter of who will serve as Home Minister may also be discussed.”

Following violent incidents during the Gen Z protests, President Deuba had convened an emergency party leaders’ meeting.

The cabinet meeting began at Baluwatar after the Nepali Congress meeting concluded.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress-appointed Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has already submitted his resignation.

During the cabinet meeting, President Deuba called PM Oli to advise reopening social media. However, PM Oli did not follow this advice, and the cabinet could not make a decision to reopen social media.

A secretariat member of PM Oli confirmed that discussions between Deuba and the Prime Minister would take place after the cabinet meeting.

When asked whether PM Oli would ask Lekhak to withdraw his resignation, the secretariat member said, “Probably not, but since the Home Minister has submitted his resignation, someone else will take his place.”
