KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has canceled his schedule to visit India on Thursday morning.
He was preparing to visit India today as the chief guest of the Mahakumbh Global Summit program at the invitation of the India Foundation.
After former Prime Minister Deuba was scheduled to go to India on Thursday, the organizers had prepared and made public the program’s banner in his name. Deuba abruptly postponed his India visit on Thursday morning. He was scheduled to leave for New Delhi on an Air India flight at 3 pm.
Deuba postponed his India visit immediately after his wife Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, who is also the Foreign Minister, returned home from Oman on Thursday. Krishna Prasad Poudel, Chief Secretary of the Nepali Congress Central Office, also said that he had received information that Deuba had postponed his India visit.
According to sources, Deuba postponed his visit to India after high-level meetings were not held in Delhi. The swearing-in of new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is scheduled in Delhi today. Deuba, who is seen as the Prime Minister-in-waiting, wanted to improve relations with Delhi.
