KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has decided to amend the provision in the existing law that allows companies authorized for land development to purchase land but not to sell it.

This decision was made during a meeting of the parliamentary party held on Friday, as informed by Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire.

He stated that the meeting also discussed resolving the legal complications observed in the Eighth Amendment to the Land Act and incorporating additional issues into the amendment.

According to him, although the Eighth Amendment allows companies to acquire land exceeding the legal ceiling for the purpose of land development, the restriction on selling that land has created obstacles for commercial implementation—prompting the Congress to conclude that this provision needs to be revised.
