KATHMANDU: Acting President of Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, has stated that the party’s ongoing Central Working Committee meeting will decide in favor of holding the regular general convention on schedule.
Addressing the demand for a special convention, Khadka confirmed that it will be incorporated within the framework of the regular general convention to promote broader party unity.
Speaking at a program organized at the party’s central office in Sanepa on the occasion of the Nepal Tarun Dal’s anniversary, he said, “All matters—election preparations, the party’s regular convention, and sister organizations’ conventions—will be integrated, and the special convention proposed by convention delegates will be linked within the regular convention framework to strengthen overall unity.”
Khadka also reflected on the aftermath of the Gen Z movement, noting that the country faced adverse conditions and highlighting the role the party must play in restoring stability.
He emphasized that both the country and the Nepali Congress are standing in one of the most challenging periods in history.
He added that establishing a democratic system where the people are the ultimate authority came at the cost of significant destruction.
Khadka recalled the damage to key historical sites, including the Koirala residence at Biratnagar, Ganeshman Singh’s residence at Chaksibari, and the ashram of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, as well as several Nepali Congress offices nationwide during the Gen Z movement.
He praised President Ram Chandra Paudel for his efforts to safeguard the constitution in this difficult period.
