KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the party will move forward through a regular general convention.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, Mahat said that the demand to convene a special general convention was not appropriate and reiterated that the party would advance through the regular general convention.
He informed that the party’s Central Working Committee meeting scheduled for October 12 will take necessary decisions on the general convention as well as recent political developments.
Stating that the country is in a difficult situation, he stressed that Congress leaders and cadres must move forward in unity.
He also refuted criticisms directed at Sher Bahadur Deuba, claiming that allegations of him making a passport in order to leave the country were baseless.
He added that making a passport is the right of every citizen and accused some of spreading baseless propaganda portraying Deuba as a criminal.
Mahat further said that no one has the authority to deny political parties the right to participate in elections and clarified that authoritarian rule will not be allowed to succeed.
He added that incidents during the Gen Z movement must be investigated and warned that the government should not act with prejudice.
