KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress central committee meeting has been postponed to the day after tomorrow (Sunday).

The delay came after Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma could not reach an agreement on the schedule for the party’s general convention.

“A meeting was postponed and rescheduled for 1 PM on Sunday due to disagreements over the agenda,” said a central leader.

Within the party, the establishment faction favors setting the schedule to hold the 15th general convention after the elections.

However, the group led by the two general secretaries insists on scheduling the regular convention in mid-December.

This issue has divided the party into two camps.

Earlier today (Friday morning), the general secretaries also held discussions with leader Shekhar Koirala regarding the convention schedule.

It had been decided to prepare the schedule to hold the central general convention on December 31 and to exert pressure to ensure this.

Following that, the general secretaries and the acting president held further discussions.

Since they failed to reach a consensus, the central committee meeting was postponed.
