KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala is set to visit China shortly after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli concludes his official trip. Dr. Koirala will leave for China on September 5.

His visit comes at the invitation of the Department of Political Science at Shaanxi University in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. He will take part in a program focused on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and is also expected to hold meetings with Chinese leaders during his stay.

Koirala, a prominent contender for the future leadership of the Nepali Congress, confirmed his participation in the visit. Chinese institutions have invited him to several events in the past, but he had been unable to attend.
