KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that party restructuring has become essential.
He emphasized the difference between securing votes and earning public trust, urging the party to conduct self-assessment.
“Why has citizens’ trust been broken? We must review this. Especially the younger generation seems to have rejected us,” Thapa said in a video message.
“Why are they not with us? We must not only search for answers but also take concrete action.” He added that the party has failed to move in line with the pace and sentiment of the times.
Thapa remarked that the Nepali Congress party’s image has been tarnished and cannot be fixed by superficial efforts. In his video statement, he said, “The Congress must apologize to the entire nation. This wound must be healed.”
Referring to the incidents of September 8 and 9, Thapa demanded an investigation into all inhumane and brutal acts.
“We must accept natural outbursts of anger,” Thapa said. “But where deliberate actions were carried out, they are punishable. Those responsible must be brought under the purview of the law.”
