JHAPA: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the party will undergo transformation by embracing the spirit and message of the Gen Z movement.
Speaking at an interaction program titled “Politics Ahead and the Future of Nepal” organized by the party’s Jhapa Constituency No. 1 regional committee in his hometown Dhulabari today, Sharma stressed that transformation in the party is inevitable.
“The times have changed; everything must change. Leaders, staff mechanisms—all must change. Not only Singha Durbar but every level across villages must change. Even those running tea shops must adapt. Within the party, those who change will lead, and those who don’t will take leave,” he said.
Sharma said the Gen Z protests had opened everyone’s eyes and conveyed three strong messages: the need for a higher level of democratic awareness, strict measures to control corruption, and leadership change.
He also called for a thorough investigation into those who ordered security forces to open fire on protesters on the first day of demonstrations and those involved in arson and vandalism on the second day.
Stressing that the guilty must face strict legal action without any leniency, Sharma underscored accountability.
Later today, Sharma visited his party’s regional office in Mechinagar-10, Mechinagar Municipality, as well as his private residence, which had been destroyed in arson and vandalism during the protests on September 9.
