KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has decided to observe three days of mourning following the death of former minister Aftab Alam.
In an emergency meeting held on Saturday, the party’s Central Working Committee resolved that from November 8 to 10, the flags at the party’s central, provincial, and district offices will be flown at half-mast.
Former Minister Alam passed away this morning. On November 9, all party offices will remain closed in his memory. Additionally, condolence books will be kept at party offices for 13 days to allow members and supporters to pay their respects.
Alam had faced allegations of killing people by throwing them into a brick kiln after injuring them in a bomb explosion just before the first Constituent Assembly elections.
He had been released by order of the Birjung High Court on May 28, but suffered a brain stroke shortly afterward.
He passed away while receiving treatment at Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal, Kathmandu.
