KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has warned the government not to engage in retaliatory politics.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Nepali Congress Party Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel cautioned the government against such practices.

The party alleged that instead of investigating the protests of September 8 and 9, the government has acted with vengeance.

Nepali Congress criticized the move to block passports and restrict domestic travel in the name of forming an inquiry commission, calling it unjust. The statement read, “Without even beginning an investigation into the incident, leaders and activists of political parties are being targeted in a prejudiced and retaliatory manner under the pretext of a so-called commission.

The government, by directly instructing the commission to act beyond its jurisdiction, is engaging in unlawful and unconstitutional actions that directly undermine human rights and personal freedoms.

The decision to block passports and restrict free movement within the country clearly reflects political retaliation.”
