KATHMANDU: Ishwari Neupane from the Nepali Congress has been chosen as the candidate for the chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.

An informal meeting of Nepali Congress office bearers held at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha decided to nominate Neupane.

“Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba called me saying I should be the candidate,” Neupane told Nepal News. Previously, Ramhari Khatiwada of the Nepali Congress chaired the committee.

He resigned after controversy over alleged manipulation while passing the Civil Service Bill’s ‘cooling-off period’ provision from the committee.

Following his resignation, coalition partners Nepali Congress and CPN-UML agreed to present a joint candidate.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the election for the committee chairperson will be held on Wednesday.
