KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba held a high-level meeting at Baluwatar to discuss two pressing political issues — a potential cabinet reshuffle at the federal level and the deepening power struggle in Bagmati Province.

As the coalition government completes its first year, Prime Minister Oli is preparing to review ministerial performance and reshuffle the Council of Ministers.

The meeting with Deuba was part of his consultations with key coalition partners.

From the UML side, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Political Advisor Bishnu Rimal, and Ramesh Badal participated. Deuba was joined by Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

At the same time, the leaders also discussed the ongoing crisis in Bagmati Province, where a conflict within the Nepali Congress has created uncertainty in the provincial government.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Indra Baniya recently unseated Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama as the party’s parliamentary leader with 22 votes against Lama’s 14. Despite the loss, Lama has refused to resign as chief minister, citing constitutional grounds.

The UML, a key player in the province, has said it will wait for an official decision from the Nepali Congress central leadership.

Nepali Congress has also stated it will move forward based on the party’s institutional decision.
