KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli said his party will not support any regressive actions.

Speaking at a UML program, Oli described post-Gen Z movement changes as “shock-led” retrogression and denied UML’s involvement.

He criticized actions like undermining the constitution and dissolving the House of Representatives as anti-democratic, emphasizing that constitutional remedies should be sought from within.

“We are not, and will not be, participants in retrogression,” Oli said.

The Gen Z protests erupted across Nepal on September 8 and 9, when citizens—especially young people—demanded greater accountability, transparency, and constitutional adherence from the government.

The then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was removed from office as a result of the movement and was airlifted by the army to a secure location.

The movement saw massive demonstrations in major cities, calling for political reforms and criticizing decisions seen as undermining democratic norms.

The protests have since triggered political debates over constitutional authority, governance, and the role of political parties in safeguarding democracy.
