KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has ruled out stepping down from the party leadership anytime soon, while alleging that the current government has repeatedly attempted to imprison him.

Concluding the UML’s three-day 10th Central Committee meeting on Friday, Oli said he still bears responsibility for the movement he has led for decades and will not quit leadership without completing his duties.

“Some comrades have demanded my resignation. For 55 years, I have carried a small part of this movement on my shoulders. I have a responsibility, and I won’t leave without fulfilling it,” Oli said.

“Let’s discuss my resignation at the general convention and seek a decision from the representatives. Let’s not move the party forward with bitterness but with friendship,” he said.

During the same address, Oli accused the government led by Sushila Karki of attempting multiple times to arrest him.

Quoting Oli, a central committee member said, “They have been holding meetings and discussions with the intention of jailing me.”
