KATHMANDU: Opposition parties gathered at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor on Friday to discuss the ongoing disruption of parliamentary sessions amid the visit visa controversy involving Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The meeting, held at CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s’ office, included leaders from the Maoist Centre, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and CPN Unified Socialist.
Initially demanding the resignation of Minister Lekhak on ethical grounds, the opposition has since softened its stance after the government pledged to investigate the issue. Instead, opposition leaders are now insisting on the formation of a high-level judicial or parliamentary committee to ensure a fair probe.
However, they claim the government has been reluctant to accept this demand, arguing that the ongoing Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) investigation suffices.
With no breakthrough in talks, the opposition’s parliamentary blockade, which began on May 27 remains in place.
