KATHMANDU: A meeting called by Speaker Devraj Ghimire with chief whips of parties represented in the House of Representatives, including Law Minister Ajay Chaurasiya, ended without a breakthrough on Wednesday.
Both ruling and opposition parties remained adamant on their respective positions, resulting in no progress toward resolving the ongoing parliamentary deadlock.
The talks were held at the Parliament building in New Baneshwar ahead of today’s scheduled House session, which has been stalled due to continuous opposition protests.
The opposition, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), is demanding a high-level judicial or parliamentary committee to investigate the visit visa scandal. They have also called for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The ruling coalition has rejected these demands, leading the opposition to obstruct House proceedings. Efforts to resolve the impasse have been unsuccessful, with Tuesday’s meetings being postponed twice without convening.
