KATHMANDU: The Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives has reached a consensus on the contentious issues of the School Education Bill.

At a meeting held in Singha Durbar on Friday, the committee agreed on provisions regarding the management of private schools and early childhood education.

The members reached a consensus on a proposal to make the operation and management of private schools more effective and non-profit oriented.

Committee Chairperson Ammar Bahadur Thapa stated that the proposal to gradually transform private schools into service-oriented, welfare-based, and non-profit institutions was unanimously endorsed by the committee.

Similarly, the committee agreed to structure early childhood development education as a two-year program.

Chairperson Thapa informed that local governments will be allowed to operate Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers in schools to foster learning interest and positive thinking among children, in compliance with national standards.
