KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has fiercely criticized Nepal’s parliamentary system, likening it to a deceptive setup where “a goat’s head is hung while dog meat is sold.”
He made this metaphorical attack while also warning that key constitutional provisions are being deliberately undermined to suit reactionary forces.
Speaking in Kathmandu on Thursday at the launch of “Samajbadi Darshan Ko Ruprekha,” a book authored by Durga Narayan Dhakal and published by the Nepal Academy, Prachanda alleged that there is an active effort underway to reverse important aspects of the Constitution.
He further claimed that manipulations within parliamentary committee reports often mask the real intentions behind decisions, with one thing shown on the surface and another occurring underneath.
Prachanda also defended his past leadership, stating that every time he headed the government, he strived to steer the nation toward socialism. He accused Nepal’s intellectual class of failing to recognize or support these efforts.
Calling for open ideological discourse, he urged that all forums debating socialism should be welcomed.
