KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal is set to appear before the Special Court today in a corruption case involving illegal land allotment to Patanjali Ayurveda and Yogpeeth Nepal.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has charged Nepal with allowing Patanjali to purchase land beyond legal limits and permitting its commercial sale. During his premiership, the Cabinet approved the allotment and sale, violating land laws.

In 2010, Nepal’s cabinet authorized Patanjali to buy 815 ropani in Kavre for Ayurvedic and educational purposes. However, Patanjali acquired over 593 ropani in Banepa Municipality and later sold parts of the land illegally.

The CIAA found 353 ropani sold to a private firm and 88 ropani purchased in Dhulikhel, breaching conditions restricting land use for non-industrial activities.
