KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki held discussions with officials of the Election Commission (EC) today regarding preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, focused on legal amendments, election management, and resource mobilization.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari led the EC delegation. Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha also attended the meeting.
EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai stated that preliminary talks were held for effective coordination with the government and stressed that both sides are clear on the need to conduct the election successfully.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to holding a free, fair, independent, and cost-effective election.
The commission has requested the government to amend the ‘Voters’ List Act’ and ensure resources to conduct the election within the stipulated time.
