KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has intensified her series of political consultations.
On Monday, she held a meeting at Baluwatar with the heads of both houses of the Federal Parliament.
After holding discussions with all seven provincial chief ministers on Sunday, the Prime Minister on Monday engaged in talks with the top officials of the Federal Parliament.
Those present at the meeting included Speaker of the House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire, Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly Bimala Ghimire, General Secretary of Parliament Padam Prasad Pandey, and Secretaries Harkaraj Rai and Rojnath Pandey.
According to the Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Ram Rawal, the discussions focused on current political issues.
The meeting also touched upon the topic of summoning the next session of the National Assembly.
Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire’s press aide Shekhar Adhikari said that the discussions included the possibility of calling the National Assembly session and holding consultations with the speakers of all seven provincial assemblies.
The issue of salary cuts for the private secretaries of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly—implemented under the government’s cost-cutting campaign—was also raised in the meeting.
The parliamentary officials reportedly urged Prime Minister Karki not to reduce the size of the secretariat serving the Federal Parliament’s leadership.
