KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has criticized opposition parties for demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and obstructing parliament without valid reasons.

Speaking at his party’s parliamentary meeting, Oli said the opposition’s demand stemmed merely from anger after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) summoned one employee for questioning—something that, according to him, does not warrant such drastic action.

“They want the Home Minister’s resignation without any factual evidence. No statements have been taken, and nothing incriminating has happened,” Oli stated.

He emphasized that parliament should not be halted over such baseless demands and described continuous obstruction as reactionary, unconstitutional, and undemocratic.

Oli also expressed frustration over the opposition’s unwillingness to cooperate, noting that efforts to engage Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ leader of the main opposition, to ensure smooth parliamentary proceedings were unsuccessful.

“Despite many attempts, he has not been reachable and seems intent on blocking parliament,” Oli said, urging that the nation must not suffer due to unnecessary disruptions.

Highlighting the opposition’s approach, Oli remarked that they often support protests regardless of the reasons, citing how they rally behind those demanding repayment of borrowed money at public demonstrations.

“They encourage protests and warn people against trusting the government,” he added.

Furthermore, Oli stressed the primacy of the people over political parties, declaring, “People are above parties and are the true source of power.”

He warned against anarchists trying to destabilize the country and stressed that democracy remains the only viable solution, referencing troubled neighbors Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

PM Oli also dismissed calls for a return to monarchy as outdated and foolish in modern society, pointing out that countries like India, China, and the United States are governed by elected representatives, and monarchy survives only in limited forms in some nations.
