KATHMANDU: Police arrested medical entrepreneur and campaign leader Durga Prasai from Chalnakhel, Kathmandu, on Friday while he was travelling to Birgunj.

According to the Kathmandu police, Prasai was detained as he was heading to attend a program, and preparations are underway to hand him over to the Cyber Bureau for further investigation.

Prasai leads the campaign titled ‘Nation, nationality, religion, culture, and citizens.’ He had planned to address a public gathering at Ghantaghar in Birgunj, despite the local administration denying permission for the event.

Campaign organizers had earlier indicated that a large public assembly was being planned.

This is not Prasai’s first arrest; on January 19, he was taken into custody by Kaski police near Pokhara Airport following a request from the Election Commission. That arrest came after he released a video alleging financial influence over the commission during elections. He was later released by the court.

Authorities say the arrests are linked to allegations of spreading misleading information that could undermine institutional credibility.
