GORKHA:Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has emphasized that the constitution and democracy must be safeguarded and advanced through elections.

Speaking at a cadre meet-and-greet and training program organized today by the Maoist Centre in Gorkha’s district headquarters, Prachanda stated that there is currently no alternative to elections given the prevailing political situation.

The convention organizing committee coordinator Prachanda said, “We will not back down from elections. It is essential to exert pressure on the government in every possible way to create a conducive environment for elections. The resolution of the current situation can only come through this process.”

He added that after a serious review of the recent “Gen Z” demonstrations, the Maoist Centre concluded that elections are the only option to navigate the complex situation in the country.

Prachanda noted that the electoral environment is gradually taking shape and other political parties are now ready to participate in the elections.

Stressing that everyone shares the responsibility to prevent another mishap under any pretext, he emphasized that elections must be held within the scheduled time.

Prachanda also pointed out that his party has consistently advocated for a directly elected executive chief and a fully proportional electoral system, as demanded by the “Gen Z” generation.
