KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held a meeting today with senior Unified Socialist leaders Jhalanath Khanal and General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal to discuss left unity efforts.
The meeting, held at Prachanda’s residence, lasted for nearly an hour and was described as positive, with a decision expected soon. Discussions focused on forming a common political centre and aligning policies among left forces.
Leaders involved in the talks indicated that the discussions were not about power-sharing but about reaching an understanding on key ideological and policy matters.
They expressed optimism that a positive conclusion would be reached shortly. It has also been hinted that both Khanal and Bhusal could participate in the left unity process involving nine leftist parties scheduled for later in the day.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal had held a separate discussion with UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli last night regarding possible unity.
However, Khanal has reportedly ruled out unification with the UML.
