KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has suggested that the corruption case filed against CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) carries the scent of political revenge from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament premises in New Baneshwor on Friday, he stated that the CIAA’s move has raised serious concerns and hinted at political motives behind the indictment.
Prachanda recalled that the CIAA itself had previously declared that policy-level decisions fall outside its jurisdiction, referencing its earlier position on the Lalita Niwas land scandal. This contradiction, he implied, casts doubt on the integrity of the current case.
Meanwhile, opposition parties held a meeting at Prachanda’s office in the federal parliament building to discuss recent political developments. The meeting concluded with the decision to hold direct talks with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Prachanda noted that it was deemed necessary for the opposition to consult Deuba, who leads the ruling coalition’s largest party, about the evolving political situation.
He added that the key issue remains the investigation into the recent visit visa scandal. According to him, if the government commits to a credible probe, the matter could be resolved positively. “If the government commits to a reliable investigation, we believe this issue can be resolved constructively,” he said.
However, he pointed out that while the ruling coalition appears agreeable to launching an inquiry, consensus is yet to be reached on the mechanism—whether it should be a parliamentary committee, a judicial panel led by a former judge, or another form of investigation.
“There is agreement on conducting an investigation, but not yet on how—whether through a parliamentary probe committee, a judicial commission, or some other method,” Prachanda stated.
