KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has appealed to the people to make good use of the upcoming election, calling it a peaceful way out of the country’s political crisis.
Following the violent Gen-Z movement, which created a power vacuum, President Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as Prime Minister on Friday evening and announced the House of Representatives election for March 5, 2026.
In his appeal, Paudel stated: “After great difficulty, a peaceful resolution has been achieved in this extremely difficult, abnormal, and fearful situation. The Constitution has survived, the parliamentary system remains, and the federal democratic republic has been preserved. Within six months, the people now have the opportunity to complete parliamentary elections and move forward toward a more advanced democracy.”
Calling the election a hard-won opportunity, the President urged all stakeholders to use it wisely, win the trust of the people, and cooperate in ensuring the successful conduct of the election.
