KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on the candidacy of Resham Lal Chaudhary. A joint bench of justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Nripadhwaj Niraula issued another order on Thursday to complete the work as per the earlier order by the apex court.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the Election Commission to submit a written response through the Attorney General’s Office within 15 days. The Supreme Court’s decision mentioned in its order dated January 25 that the apex court’s decisions and the pending petitions related to Chaudhary in other courts should be studied.
Chaudhary had registered his candidacy in Kailali-1 in the direct election to the House of Representatives slated for March 5. The Election Commission had decided to reject the candidacy of Chaudhary, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case of manslaughter in the Tikapur incident in Kailali. After his candidacy was rejected, Chaudhary filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Election Commission.
