KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi has accused the government of acting against the Constitution.

During the emergency session of the House of Representatives on Sunday, MP Shahi stated that imprisoning party leaders solely for expressing differing opinions is a violation of Article 270 of the Constitution.

He argued that the government is currently acting in contradiction to constitutional provisions. He highlighted that Sujit KC, President of the RPP Youth Organization, was jailed merely for expressing differing views on social media.

Shahi questioned the statements made by the Prime Minister and Home Minister from the parliamentary podium, suggesting that anyone with opposing views would be jailed. He raised the question of whether the Prime Minister and Home Minister are above Nepal’s Constitution. Shahi further asserted that individuals who cannot uphold the Constitution have no justification to remain in government.

He also demanded an investigation and action against those responsible for the death of Upesh Nepali, who was electrocuted while working on an electric pole in Kavre.

Shahi claimed that Nepali’s death was not an accident but a murder and called for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
