KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has expressed serious concern over alleged efforts by authorities to obstruct supporters of the monarchy who are heading to Kathmandu to participate in a pro-royalist demonstration.
Mohan Kumar Shrestha, RPP spokesperson and head of publicity, took to social media earlier today claiming that nationalist citizens from various parts of the country traveling through Naubise towards Kathmandu are being stopped, unnecessarily interrogated, and prevented from entering the capital.
“We have received reports that nationalist friends from different regions, who are en route to Kathmandu via Naubise to take part in the ongoing movement supporting the monarchy, are being blocked, questioned without cause, and hindered in their travel,” Shrestha wrote.
He urged the administration to act responsibly and ensure a conducive environment for peaceful assembly. “We draw the attention of the administration to refrain from such actions and to create a smooth and respectful environment for all citizens,” he added.
The statement comes as Kathmandu witnesses renewed gatherings and demonstrations by royalist groups demanding the reinstatement of the constitutional monarchy and Hindu state. Today’s protest was expected to draw large crowds from outside the Valley, particularly supporters aligned with the pro-monarchy movement.
The RPP, which has long advocated for a Hindu state and constitutional monarchy, has recently stepped up its street activities.
As of this afternoon, security has been visibly increased in and around major entry points to the capital, including Naubise, Kalanki, and Balaju. Authorities have not officially responded to the RPP’s allegations.
