KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) visited the Election Commission on Sunday to draw attention to the delay in updating changes in party leadership—specifically the replacement of former General Secretary Dr. Mukul Dhakal with current General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti.
Burlakoti, accompanied by leaders from the party’s legal department, reached the Commission’s office in Kantipath to meet Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari.
During the meeting, they expressed concern over the Commission’s failure to reflect the party’s internal restructuring, even 15 months after it occurred.
After the meeting, Burlakoti told reporters that the purpose of the visit was to understand why the Commission had still not updated the change in the general secretary position, despite the party having formally submitted documentation.
According to the Commission, the last record it received from RSP regarding office-bearer changes was on April 2, 2024.
As of June 20, 2025, no additional updates had been registered, which legally maintains Dr. Mukul Dhakal as the party’s general secretary in the Commission’s records.
Dhakal has also been asserting his legal claim to the post, arguing that the Commission’s records support his stance.
