KATHMANDU: Dr. Tosima Karki, Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated that the government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has lost its legitimacy.
Addressing Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives, she said none of the promises made by the current government have been fulfilled.
Although the government pledged to amend the constitution, its achievements so far amount only to the sale of people and government land, she said.
Dr. Karki also accused the government of applauding those involved in corruption.
“It has been a year since this government was formed, but none of the promises have been kept. Therefore, this government’s legitimacy has ended. The promise was constitutional amendment, but the achievement is selling people and government land. The promise was good governance, but the result is judicial overreach and imprisonment of those fighting for the people,” she said. “And those involved in corruption are being applauded. Such activities by the major parties are raising questions about the system.”
She further expressed frustration that despite protesting for two months over the Visit Visa scandal, there has been no hearing.
Dr. Karki questioned, “Is this House of Representatives for the people or a puppet of the government?”
“Why is this parliament running smoothly despite continuous opposition by two opposition parties? Whose parliament is this? Is it the voice of the people or a puppet of the government? History should not record this House as a puppet of the government trying to sabotage good governance,” she added.
