BHAIRAHAWA: The parliamentary party meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is underway in Bhairahawa on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the party spokesperson Manish Jhaka, the meeting is scheduled from 1 PM to 4 PM at a hotel near Bhairahawa prison, where RSP president Rabi Lamichhane, involved in a cooperative fraud case, is currently detained.
Some RSP lawmakers arrived in Bhairahawa on Tuesday to participate, while the rest came on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, party vice-presidents DP Aryal and Dr. Swarnim Wagle, General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, and spokesperson Manish Jha met with local residents in Rupandehi-3 to discuss the upcoming by-election scheduled for November 3.
Before Wednesday’s meeting, vice-president Aryal visited the prison to meet with party president Lamichhane. Lawmakers Sobita Gautam, Ashim Sah, and Dr. Chanda Karki also visited Rabi in prison.
During the meeting, Rabi expressed gratitude for the signature campaign that has gathered support from over 2.5 million voters and encouraged leaders to continue the campaign without losing touch with “ground reality.”
Currently, the RSP parliamentary party lacks a leader, as president Lamichhane’s parliamentary membership has been suspended.
No acting leader has been appointed by Lamichhane, and the role of parliamentary party coordinator is being fulfilled by deputy leader Birajbhakta Shrestha.
