KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to continue its obstruction of parliamentary proceedings until a high-level investigation committee is formed to probe the recent visit visa scandal.
The decision was taken during the party’s parliamentary group meeting held in Bhairahawa on Wednesday.
Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar said that widespread corruption and irregularities are being committed under the pretext of visit visas, and the party demands immediate parliamentary scrutiny. Until the probe panel is established, RSP lawmakers will block House activities.
In addition to its parliamentary protest, the RSP has also resolved to take the movement to the streets.
The meeting concluded that public demonstrations will be launched to pressure the government for accountability.
The party also strongly objected to recent bills related to land management, civil service, and education, claiming they undermine the constitutional jurisdiction of parliament.
RSP lawmakers have been instructed to raise stronger opposition to such legislation during parliamentary debates.
Furthermore, the RSP committed to highlighting the local issues of Lumbini Province in parliament, particularly challenges facing the tourism sector.
The party also urged the government to guarantee voting rights for Nepali citizens living abroad.
Ahead of the parliamentary party meeting, several RSP lawmakers including Sobita Gautam visited party president Rabi Lamichhane in Bhairahawa jail to discuss the party’s stance and ongoing developments.
