KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that the African country of Rwanda has succeeded in becoming an exemplary nation in the world for good governance, rapid economic development and sustainable peace.
At a program organized on Friday to mark the 31st Liberation Day of landlocked and underdeveloped country Rwanda, Speaker Ghimire said that there is a possibility of benefiting from cooperation in sectors including tourism, energy, information technology, agriculture, trade and others with Rwanda, with which diplomatic relations were established only a few years ago.
Stating that both countries, which suffered irreparable losses of property and lives due to the conflict, have made significant contributions to the United Nations peacekeeping mission, he expressed the view that as underdeveloped countries, it is necessary to prioritize the policy of mutual assistance and cooperation and cooperate as much as possible towards improving the living standards of the people of both countries.
Mukangira Jacqueline, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to India and Nepal, informed that Rwanda is currently moving forward on the path of development and prosperity with rapid economic growth, giving priority to important and fundamental aspects such as good governance, transparency, gender equality, and inclusive participation.
President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, expressed the view that lessons should be learned from Rwanda, which has succeeded in achieving remarkable achievements in education, health, infrastructure construction, tourism, information technology, agriculture, and other sectors by taking the private sector into confidence, in terms of mobilizing overall economic activities.
According to Dhakal, President of the Federation of Rwandan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, who serves as the ‘Dean’ of the Unpaid Council of Rwanda, Rwanda’s per capita income in 2015 was only about US$200, but the gross domestic product has increased by 10 percent and now the per capita income has reached US$800.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ramkaji Khadka, said that Rwanda, which was liberated from the grip of violence and conflict in 1994, has made unparalleled progress in sectors including education, health, infrastructure construction, tourism, energy, and agriculture, attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
Prajwaljung Pandey, the honorary ambassador of Rwanda to Nepal, who was also the organizer of the event, said that he is making every effort to promote trade and business between Nepal and Rwanda, achieve sustainable peace and prosperity, and expand diplomatic relations. He said that we should identify areas of cooperation in terms of investment and cooperate as necessary to benefit the people of both countries.
It was stated on the occasion that Rwanda, which has made a significant contribution to the production and export of coffee in the world, has done original and exemplary work towards sustainable peace, reconciliation between conflicting parties, and reconstruction, as well as world peace.
