KATHMANDU: In today’s meeting of the National Assembly, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Raghuji Panta clarified that the government has not halted the School Education Bill and that it will be presented soon.
Responding to lawmakers’ concerns during the discussion on the “Appropriation Bill 2082” under the Education Ministry, Panta explained that the bill had only been delayed for a few days to reach consensus on certain issues.
According to an earlier agreement with the Teachers’ Federation, the bill was to be tabled by Asar 15 (June 29).
Panta said the bill has been drafted to include various past agreements, including the most recent nine-point agreement with the Teachers’ Federation. Several points from that agreement have already been addressed.
Panta also said that most of the demands in the nine-point deal have been incorporated in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. He emphasized that the School Education Bill is not just a win for teachers, but for the entire country and its people, and thus remains the ministry’s top priority.
Recognizing education as a cornerstone for national progress, the government has allocated the largest share of the upcoming budget to this sector. A total of Rs 211 billion has been earmarked for education, while an additional Rs 7.47 billion has been allocated by the Ministry of Urban Development for school reconstruction—underscoring the government’s high priority on this area.
