KATHMANDU: The Shekhar Koirala-aligned faction of the Nepal Student Union (NSU), the student wing of the ruling Nepali Congress, has submitted a memorandum to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba demanding the formation of a new central ad-hoc committee.
According to central committee member Binod Shahi Thakuri, the memorandum was handed over to President Deuba at his residence on Sunday morning.
In the memorandum, the group has accused current ad-hoc committee president Dujang Sherpa of abandoning the key responsibilities and acting against the interests of the organization for personal gain.
Sherpa, who was appointed with the mandate to hold the general convention within six months, has already completed three years in office without making any preparations for the convention, the letter stated.
Signed by central committee member Premika Rana Magar on behalf of the group, the memorandum demands that Sherpa be immediately dismissed and a new central ad-hoc committee be formed in accordance with the party statute.
“We strongly urge the respected Nepali Congress President to immediately dismiss Dujang Sherpa, dissolve the current NSU ad-hoc committee, and form a new executive committee as per the statute, steering the organization towards its long overdue general convention while preserving its historic legacy,” the memorandum reads.
