KATHMANDU: Following the death of 19 protesters in the Gen Z movement, political pressure has intensified on the government.

In response, ministers aligned with Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala have been instructed to resign. Party president Sher Bahadur Deuba refused to withdraw from the government, prompting Koirala to direct his close ministers to step down.

Meanwhile, other Congress ministers are holding separate discussions on whether to submit a joint resignation or take alternative action.

Ministers currently in the government under Prakash Man Singh include Singh himself as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, along with Arzu Rana Deuba (Foreign Affairs), Teju Lal Chaudhary (Sports), Ajay Chaurasiya (Law), Deepak Khadka (Energy), Ain Bahadur Shahi (Forestry), Pradeep Paudel (Health and Population), Ramnath Adhikari (Agriculture), and Badri Pandey (Tourism).

Yesterday, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned following the deaths of the protesters, adding to the growing political instability within the ruling coalition.

This development highlights a deepening rift within the Nepali Congress, as different factions respond differently to public outrage and calls for government accountability.
