KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire today expressed deep dissatisfaction with the prolonged obstruction of parliamentary proceedings by opposition parties, who have been demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in connection with the visit visa scam at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

Addressing a gathering of the Diploma Engineer’s Association, Speaker Ghimire lamented that crucial legislation, including the School Education Bill and the Federal Civil Service Bill, have been held up for an extended period due to the ongoing political deadlock.

“The house session has been repeatedly disrupted, preventing important bills from being debated and passed. This is detrimental to the country’s governance and development,” the Speaker said.

The opposition parties have been vocally pressing for Minister Lekhak’s resignation, alleging his involvement in the irregularities surrounding the issuance of visit visas at TIA.

The demand has led to repeated obstruction of the House, stalling the parliamentary agenda.

Speaker Ghimire appealed to all lawmakers to prioritize national interests and allow the house to function smoothly so that pending legislation can be enacted for the benefit of the public.
